Is Andre Iguodala a Future Hall of Famer?
It took him ten
years but he’s finally earned his NBA Title. One of the league's most
dominating defenders for years now won his ring and took home the Finals’ MVP
along with him. Andre Iguodala has done it all over ten seasons, but nearing
the end of his career there’s one question remaining, will he be in the Hall of
Fame?
His career has been filled with few major accomplishments,
but Iguodala has done his share throughout his ten seasons. A first and second
team NBA All-Defensive player, NBA All-Rookie First Team, a member of Team USA,
and now NBA Finals’ MVP, Iguodala has proved his worth in the league.
What made Iguodala so interesting throughout his career, and
still does today, is his ability never to shy away from a challenge. Iguodala
has always taken the challenge of guarding the best such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron
James, and Carmelo Anthony, and in most cases shut them down. Averaging 1.7
steals and 5.5 rebounds throughout his career, Iguodala has proven he is a
defensive mastermind. He has never been the player making the most noise in the NBA,
but Iguodala was and still is known as well as anyone because of his ability to
compete with these great players.
Iguodala’s greatest quality, however, is his ability to
always be the “nice guy.” In 2006, The Sporting News named him one of “the good
guys of 2006.” It’s because Iguodala is constantly giving credit to others for
his successes. After winning Finals’ MVP, he said it was his “great teammates,”
that allowed him to win the award. Jokingly, Iguodala said, “I want to be like
Steph when I grow up.” Iguodala has always been a loved athlete by many (maybe not Cleveland fans in 2015).
Iguodala isn’t just a genuine guy when it comes to sports.
Andre has established numerous charity funds such as the Andre Iguodala
Disaster Relief Fund that raised money for tornado victims in Springfield,
Illinois, and the Andre Iguodala Youth Foundation, which uses sports to help
children.
Andre Iguodala isn’t done yet either. He’s only ten seasons
into his career and shows no signs of slowing up. His credentials may have already
earn him a spot amongst the NBA’s legends, but the question will continue to
brew until his name is on a ballot. Now with an NBA Finals’ MVP under his belt,
an award given to the elite few in history, Iguodala has a significant topper
on an already impressive resume.
It may be years before the question has to be answered, and
many more attributes may appear on his list of accomplishments. Only time will tell, but let
the discussion begin, will Andre Iguodala be in the Hall of Fame?
