If you don't know him, get to. Lawrence Elliott Jr. is going to be great

It’s a rare occurrence for a NFL running back to come from a Division II school, but Lawrence Elliott Jr. is definitely something rare.

It’s Saturday night and Bloomsburg University running back, Lawrence Elliott Jr., is getting pizza at a local shop. A few fans come up to him praising how well he did in the game that day; how his statistics were outstanding and he played so well.

Elliott sits there smiling, as he listens to the fans adore his game. Once they finish, he thanks them and turns to me. My response couldn’t be anything except an acknowledgement of how big he is on campus. For Elliott, though, his response was nothing short of a light laugh and “I’m really not that big.”

That’s Elliott. His humble personality is one of a million. His ability to acknowledge that he can get better provides the drive he’s built to become the best. This adds to the already dominant skill that Elliott has, all while never forgetting that he plays the game he loves for the fans that love it just as much as he does.

The 6’1” running back is one of the most pristine runners in all of college football. As a junior, Elliott is playing in his first starting season in college. It’s no question that he’s making the most out of it, as he’s on pace to rush for around 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns while finishing a top-ten rusher in 2015, totaling 178 carries, 1,137 yards, 10 touchdowns, 6.4 yards per carry through nine games so far in 2015.

His style of running is one that resembles players like Devonta Freeman and Le’Veon Bell. He runs with as much power and explosion as any college running back, but with more patience than any other. The way he spots the hole and bursts through the line is like watching Jackie Chan catch a fly in Karate Kid: unthinkable. It’s hard to believe that he pulls off some of the runs that he’s had throughout his career. Every time that you think he can’t impress anymore than he already has, he breaks three tackles and runs 60 yards for a touchdown.

If he wasn’t sitting behind former Bloomsburg running back, Franklyn Quiteh, for the last two seasons than he may be a Division II player that was drafted as a junior in college.

You can’t say enough about this man. He’s able to run, catch, return kicks, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he could pass and kick too. His talent is a rare commodity for any football player.

If Elliott’s stats don’t show that he is quickly becoming a powerhouse, ask the members of the NCAA who’ve selected him for player of the week award in 2015. It’s becoming more and more known that Elliott is becoming one of the best. He’s only a Division II player, but he has all the skill to outplay any college football player, Division I, II, or III.

So, for now, Elliott can keep saying he isn’t that big or that he doesn’t have that many fans, but he only has two more years before his #26 jersey is on the back of millions of screaming fans. Then, Elliott can’t deny that he’s “big” (even though he probably will).

For me, I’m going to buy my #26 Bloomsburg jersey and I suggest you do the same, because there’s no denying that Lawrence Elliott Jr. is going to be great.
