After All the Drama, Marcus Mariota Goes to the Titans
In a draft day that had rumors upon rumors, Marcus Mariota
could’ve ended up anywhere from Tennessee to Chicago. It seemed like everyone
was supposedly looking at the former Duck and throwing whatever they could at
the Titans to get him. Well, for one lucky team, Mariota will be suiting up for
them on opening day. The Eagles threw everything they had at the Titans but it
didn’t matter. On April 30, 2015 at 8:20 PM, Marcus Mariota became a Tennessee
Titan.
Although the Titans may not have the firepower to surround
Mariota this season, he is not a work in progress. Mariota is going to be an
instant star and will have the immediate impact the Titans want.
It seemed like the Titans were forced into the scenario. It
was almost if they didn’t want to draft Mariota but were obligated to, but that’s
not true! Mariota is an NFL superstar and they know it. His immediate impact
with the team shows everyone that he is what the Titans thought he could be.
He’s going to be able to use both Bishop Sankey and Kendall Wright to turn the
Tennessee offense into the threat it should be.
Over the last few years, the Titans have drafted pieces to
create a dominant offense but always showed no promise. That’s because they
needed the quarterback to control these future stars. Mariota is going to be
able to connect the pieces in Tennessee and create the high flying offense they
can have. This is because Mariota knows how to lead. He stays as calm as any
player in the draft and makes plays, but smart plays. The Titans can’t have a
quarterback that makes big mistakes and then panics because is what been all
they’ve had since they drafted Vince Young. Mariota isn’t that. He just plays
football and ignores the bad.
Although the Buccaneers seemed to think that Mariota won’t
be anything besides second best to Jameis Winston, he will be more than that.
The Bucs seemed to be the only team that actually wanted Winston over Mariota.
This is because Mariota has shown all throughout college that he can outplay
Winston. Mariota has beaten Winston in almost every statistic throughout his
college career. With that said, while watching Mariota you can see that he
makes much better decisions and has a much better arm than Winston. Mariota
should quickly prove that he is the better quarterback and that is why all the
drama was about him.
In a day filled with enough drama to last the entire draft,
the Titans stayed strong. Because of this, they can expect a quarterback that
many believe can be a superstar. It doesn’t matter if he went after Winston or
that the Titans don’t have the developed weapons that other teams may have. Marcus
Mariota is going to show the NFL that all the drama wasn’t just hype. In 2015,
look for Mariota to bring out the weapons the Titans have and prove that he is
a star in the NFL.
