Average Joe's Sports' All-(Miami)Hurricanes NFL Team

Recently the topic of a Miami Hurricanes team winning a Super Bowl has been making it’s way across the sports world, sparking a rather interesting debate.

"If you put a team together and all of the (Miami) guys are in their prime, yes, I think you could (win a Super Bowl)," –Andre Johnson

Since this question seems to be one that no one will ever know, but is fun to discuss, The Pine tackled its “All-Hurricanes NFL Team.”

Offense

Quarterback- Jim Kelly
A Hall of Fame quarterback, Kelly became one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time throughout his career. His long list of achievements includes five-time Pro Bowl selectee, AP All-Pro, and many more.

Running Back- Frank Gore
Gore, yet still in the NFL, has developed himself into one of the best Hurricanes to play in the NFL. Gore is the all-time leading rusher for the San Francisco 49ers and has been a five-time Pro Bowler. Besides, having a power back is always lift.

Running Back- Chuck Foreman
Foreman is one of the great Minnesota Vikings running backs, who was a five-time Pro Bowler and a four-time All-Pro selection.

Wide Receiver- Michael Irvin
Irvin, a 2007 Hall of Fame inductee, is one of the great wide receivers in history. The long time Dallas Cowboy, Irvin is a five-time Pro Bowler and was ranked 92nd on Top 100: NFL Greatest Players.

Wide Receiver- Andre Johnson
Johnson, a Miami Hurricane Hall of Famer, is currently playing for the Indianapolis Colts and is already a seven-time Pro Bowler. Johnson is also a two-time All-Pro First Team selectee and owns all Houston Texans receiving records.

Tight End- Daniel Lamont “Bubba” Franks
Besides having the coolest name in Hurricane history, Bubba Franks had an eight-year career that seemed to peak early but was still successful. The three-time Pro Bowler finished his career with 32 touchdowns.

Tight End- Jimmy Graham
In just five seasons in the NFL ,Graham has established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league. If the three-time Pro Bowler continues to play as well as he has since 2010, Graham may end his career as one of the best tight ends in NFL history.

Offensive Tackle- Orlando Franklin
Orlando really hasn’t had much of a chance to prove his dominance in the NFL due to injuries. At 27-years-old Franklin still has time to become the force he can be in the pros.

Offensive Tackle- Bryant McKinnie
McKinnie was one of Minnesota’s most feared players during his eight-year career with the Vikings. His accomplishments don’t show the great player that McKinnie was during his career, with a singular Pro Bowl selection but McKinnie started in 169 of 172 of his games played.

Offensive Guard- Chris Myers
Myers is now entering his tenth season and has finally started to become the dominant force he can be. The two-time Pro Bowler currently plays for the Houston Texans and is looking to make his third Pro Bowl in five years.

Offensive Guard- Dennis Harrah
Harrah is one of the most successful Miami Hurricanes guards of all time. The six-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All Pro has a resume atop the best of offensive linemen from Miami.

Offensive Center- Jim Otto
You can’t miss Jim Otto on the list of the best because he may be the best. The AFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer is known as one of the greatest centers in history. Fun fact about Jim Otto, throughout his life he has had 28 knee surgeries, nine while playing football.

Defense

Defensive Tackle- Jerome Brown
If it wasn’t for a tragic car accident at age 27, Brown could’ve become a Hall of Famer and one of the best defensive tackles of his time, potentially ever. Throughout his five-year career, Brown was a two-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All Pro selection.

Defensive Tackle- Warren Sapp
Sapp became one of the most awarded players from this list during his 12-year career. His accomplishments include Hall of Fame inductee, 1990 All-Decade Team, 2000 All-Decade Team, and a seven-time Pro Bowler.

Defensive End- Danny Stubbs
Stubbs started his career on a significant note winning two Super Bowls with the 49ers. After that his career wasn’t as successful as he’d hoped, but nevertheless, Stubbs still makes our list of the All-Hurricane Team.

Defensive End- Kevin Fagan
Fagan had the same career as other end, Danny Stubbs, being apart of two Super Bowl winning 49ers teams. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the lack of defensive ends from Miami, these two may not have made our list.

Linebacker- Jessie Armstead
The long time New York Giant was one of the best linebackers when he played. The five-time Pro Bowler finished just nine tackles shy of 1,000 (991).

Linebacker- Ray Lewis
There’s no denying that Lewis may be the best players to ever come out of Miami University. Owning the NFL record for the most Pro Bowl selections for a linebacker (13), All-Pro selections (10), and most tackles in a single postseason (51), Ray Lewis would be the driving force behind this All-Hurricane team.

Linebacker- D.J. Williams
Williams was drafted in 2004 and emerged as one of the NFL’s best linebackers quickly. Although he didn’t have the most coveted career, Williams was one of Miami’s best pros.

Safety- Sean Taylor
It wouldn’t be right for Sean Taylor not to be on this list. In four seasons, before his sad murder in 2007, Taylor was named to two Pro Bowls and a First-Team All Pro team. If it wasn’t for his death, Taylor may have surpassed all expectations given to him.

Safety- Ed Reed
One of the scariest players of this fearsome All-Hurricane team is safety, Ed Reed. The eight-time All Pro had a remarkable career that included NFL records of most interception yards (1,590) and most career postseason interceptions (9).

Nickleback- Bennie Blades
Although Blades played safety during his career, he had to be placed on the team in some way- and this is it. Starting in 134 of his 136 games played, Blades made an impact in the NFL since day one of his career. This makes him the perfect nickleback for our All-Hurricane roster.

Cornerback- Ryan McNeil
Every secondary needs a ball hawking cornerback. That’s McNeil. Finishing his career with 31 interceptions made McNeil a threat for any quarterback and the a great fit at our cornerback position.

Cornerback- Phillip Buchanon
Throughout his nine-year career, Buchanon was known to be reliable and fast, perfect combination our starting cornerback. His 21 interceptions also makes him some what of a threat for turnovers.

Special Teams

Kicker- Dan Miller
Miller isn’t on this list because of his successful NFL career. Actually, Miller didn’t do much of anything in the NFL. However, he did win a Grey Cup throughout his career and that’s why we’re awarding him a place within the team.

Punter- Jeff Feagles
Being in the NFL for 22 seasons is an award within it’s own and being a two-time Pro Bowl selection also adds to the list. Feagles has always been a consistent player, which gives us reason to award him this spot.

Returner- Devin Hester
How can you not award Hester this position. Hands down he’s the greatest returner in NFL history. Owning ten returning records during his career already, Hester was an easy choice for this position. If this team actually existed, Hester may be the most exciting player on it.
