USA Soccer: Bringing America Closer Every Year
There’s never anything positive on television, no matter
what you’re watching. Whether it’s the news or a cartoon, everyone always has a
problem with something. It’s how America is, heck, it’s how the world is. No
single person will ever have the same beliefs and opinions as the entire
country and that’s just how it’s going to be, there’s no getting around it.
However, there’s always going to be two times within every four years that
something magical happens in the United States, the World Cup.
Face it, EVERYONE keeps up with the world cup, soccer fan or
not. It’s almost forced upon you as an American citizen to somehow know how
team USA is doing. During the World Cup, you can’t be with a group of people
without the conversation being brought up, and in essence, you basically follow
the team without even following it.
The best part about it is that you never hear people
complain about it. Yes, you get those select few who, for some reason, have
this intense desire to dislike anything and everything the common core likes,
but besides that, you can talk to almost anyone about it.
It’s what makes America “the best.” No other country is as
competitive as the United States and what better way to embrace this competitiveness
than to compete with every other country to decide who’s the best. It’s the
perfect system for a country with such a high drive to be ranked first.
The best part about USA Soccer is that we have to actually
compete. Everyone knows that our basketball team will win gold long before the
Olympics even start, but watching soccer, you’re on the edge of your seat the
entire time. It brings the entire country to their feet when they score a goal
because that may be the win. Simply, it’s an insane adrenaline rush from start
to finish that 24.7 million people experience. Yes, on average 24.7 million people
watch a USA Soccer game, that’s almost 10 million more people than an NBA
Finals’ deciding game. It’s obvious that this is the closest this country is in
practically any aspect. No one’s complaining though, because lets face it, this
country loves to not get along.
So, twice every four years, lets take a break from the
arguing and watch some soccer. Lets forget about all the bad, put on an
American flag shirt, and watch our country try to prove we’re the best. And who
cares if we don’t win, because at the end of the day, there’s no other country
like the United States of America. I guess, if you really think about it, USA
Soccer does a little more for this country than just play soccer. They bring together
a country that never agrees and gives them a reason to forget the
problems with the United States for 90 minutes, and root on the team showing
the rest of the world that the USA is, and always will be, the best.
